Wonders

Chapter five, The Magician’s Nephew

Charn was empty when Polly and Digory saw it. But earlier people had admired it and thought it the wonder of the world.

In those days, Charn had been filled with the sights and sounds of slaves groaning, of people being sacrificed at temples, and – eventually – of battle to the death between two warring sisters.

Questions to Ponder:

What about Charn might you have liked?

What would you not have liked?

What about your own city do you like?

What do you not like?

What happened today that you want to remember?

Hurting others to get what you want

Chapter four, The Magician’s Nephew

Digory was so determined to strike the bell, he didn’t care what Polly wanted. He wasn’t about to let her stop him – even if it meant hurting her.

Questions to Ponder:

When you are hurting someone, how much violence do you think is justified to get what you want?

When you are being hurt by someone, how much violence do you think is justified for them to get what they want?

What happened today that you want to remember?

Oops!

Chapter three, The Magician’s Nephew

Digory was so eager for adventure he almost forgot to mark the pool that would allow him to return home.

Questions to Ponder:

How close are you to getting lost (or making some other mistake)?

Have you ever gotten lost? What happened?

What happened today that you want to remember?
